Our Story

The foundation of Agape Ranch finds its roots in Leslie's deep love for horses. Leslie's aunt Mary and Uncle Bill owned horses in Postville, Iowa and during her childhood summer's both her and her sister Karen would spend the entire summer there. Their days were filled with adventures in the barn, chores and joyful rides on the backs of the horses. However, when their aunt Mary and uncle Bill had to part ways with the horses, it left them feeling devastated. Luckily, Leslie and her sister was able to work out a deal with a local barn in Madison. In exchange for barn chores and labor, they were able to ride and enjoy being around horses again. The barn soon became their favorite pastime and their second home.
Leslie stayed connected to the horse world until she and Mark began their family. With Mark playing hockey for 11 years in the NHL and 2 years in Europe, they found themselves moving frequently. It was during these times that Leslie and Mark began to explore their understanding of God. While Mark was playing for the New Jersey Devils, one of his teammates shared about God and his love for us through Christ. Ironically, their foundation of faith was laid during their time with the Devils.
As their children got older, Leslie eventually found her way back into the world of horses by working at a nearby polo barn. In 2017 she came across a book written by Kim Meeder titled "Hope Rising." The book tells the true stories of how the author would rescue abused and neglected horses, and bring them together with kids in need, showcasing the transformative power of God's redeeming love.
Leslie had experienced a lifetime of the amazing effects that horses can have on a soul, and this idea deeply resonated with her and Mark. They felt called to make a positive impact on young lives in their community through a similar approach. This led them on what became a three-year search to find the right piece of land for their vision.
In the midst of their search for land, they journeyed to central Oregon to attend a four-day information clinic at Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch, led by Kim and her husband Troy Meeder. The clinic was tailored for people like Mark and Leslie, who were aspiring to start a similar ministry. This experience not only clarified their vision, but also laid the foundation for the logistics of their dream.
After exploring more than 14 potential locations and lots of disappointments, they finally discovered the perfect plot of land on Coray Lane and made it their own.
Despite the doubting voices echoing concerns of age, finances, and qualifications,  they are trusting that God is powerful and can do more than we can ask or imagine. In a world full of hurt and harm, they have been given the opportunity to create a place of hope and healing. They’ve initiated a Capital Campaign to fund the construction of the necessary barn and indoor facilities, setting the stage for the beginning of their ministry.
Our prayer is that we will be able to partner alongside others that believe in the mission of Agape Ranch through financial support and volunteering. Together we believe that with God's grace, we can truly make a transformative impact on the lives He guides to our ranch.
